IV Therapy
IV therapy is the delivery of fluids, vitamins or minerals directly into a vein. At IV Klinik it is
provided in a clinical setting, by a qualified practitioner, with medical oversight.
A practitioner-led approach
Every patient has a consultation with our clinical team before any IV therapy. The team reviews your medical questionnaire and discusses your health, history, goals and any concerns with you. If anything in that assessment needs a closer look, it is escalated to our doctor, and you may need a further consultation or testing before treatment.
IV therapy is not suitable for everyone. Where the clinical team and the supervising doctor are satisfied that it is appropriate for you, your infusion is administered in our clinic. If a practitioner decides IV therapy is not right for you, they will discuss this with you.
Tailored to the individual
The infusion is not a fixed product. What goes into it is a clinical decision, made by the practitioner after your consultation and a review of your medical questionnaire, taking your health and history into account. It is not a set menu, and it is not something you select yourself.
Infusions may include vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, B vitamins, zinc and magnesium.
How to prepare for your infusion
A little preparation helps your appointment go smoothly. In the lead-up to your infusion, we
suggest you:
- Eat a meal beforehand, rather than coming in on an empty stomach.
- Drink water in the hours before your appointment, as being well hydrated can make it
easier to place the cannula. - Go easy on coffee and other caffeinated drinks beforehand.
- Wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that are easy to roll up.
- Allow enough time so you are not rushed, and bring something to occupy yourself during the appointment.
Tell the clinical team about any medications you take, any allergies, and anything that has changed in your health since your last visit.
What an appointment involves
Your appointment starts with a consultation with our clinical team. Once a practitioner has
confirmed that IV therapy is appropriate for you, the infusion is administered in our clinic, with
medical oversight. An appointment generally takes around 60 minutes.
What it costs
Fees vary, as your infusion is tailored to you.
The initial consultation with our clinical team is included in your appointment. The team will confirm the cost with you at your consultation, before any treatment goes ahead. If anything is escalated to the doctor, a further consultation or testing may be needed. That is an additional cost and varies with the level of investigation required.
